A pair of hearing aids costs from $98 to $4,898 across the 70 models with a current seller price on this site. The middle starting price, the median, is $1,948 a pair, or $974 per ear. Over-the-counter (OTC) pairs start at a median of $489; pairs fitted by a provider, a hearing center or the seller's own audiologists start at a median of $2,798. Every figure on this page is computed from pair prices read on the sellers' own pages between October 20, 2026 and October 26, 2026.

Each model counts once, at its starting price: the lowest pair price any recorded seller prints for it (the bottom of the range where a seller prints one). The highest figures are the top of the highest printed range. The median is not a market average weighted by sales, and it covers only sellers that print a pair price; clinic prices that are quoted after a visit are not in it (see what is missing).

The answer in one table

Type Models Lowest A quarter start at or below Median Three quarters start at or below Highest (top of range)
All 70 $98 $549 $1,948 $2,898 $4,898
OTC and earbuds 31 $98 $289 $489 $1,195 $2,498
Fitted by a provider, hearing center or the seller's audiologists 39 $1,299.98 $2,498 $2,798 $3,198 $4,898
of which programmed remotely by the seller 3 $1,798 $1,798 $2,998 $3,998 $3,998

The quarter marks are listed prices of actual models (the nearest model at that position), not averages. The cheapest pair recorded is the Audien Atom One at $98; the cheapest fitted pair is the Liberty Clear Lucid at $1,299.98; the highest printed figure is the top of the Starkey Signature Series range, $4,898.

Every model that starts below $1,299.98, the price of the cheapest fitted or remote-programmed pair (Liberty Clear Lucid), is OTC: 25 of the 70. Between $1,000 and $2,000 the two kinds meet (7 OTC, 6 fitted or remote). Of the 34 models that start at $2,000 or more, 1 is OTC, and 15 start at $3,000 or more. Every one of the 31 OTC pairs starts below the fitted median of $2,798.

How much one hearing aid costs

Every seller on this site prices a pair, so the cost of one aid here is the pair price split in two: the median works out at $974 per ear, $244.50 for OTC and $1,399 for a fitted aid. Whether a seller will sell a single aid, and at what price, is a question for that seller; none of the prices recorded here is for one ear.

Why one model can cost thousands more than another of the same name

25 models are listed as a range rather than one price, because one model name covers several technology levels. The median gap between the cheapest and dearest level of the same model is $1,700. The why prices differ guide walks through the levels, and the bundled vs unbundled guide prices the hearing test, earmolds and follow-up visits that some prices leave out.

A model sold in two channels is counted in both. What each price includes, such as a hearing test, follow-up visits, a trial or a warranty, is listed on each channel page.

With and without insurance

The prices above are what the seller charges before any insurance. Original Medicare does not change them: Medicare.gov says “Medicare doesn't cover hearing aids or exams for fitting hearing aids.” Some Medicare Advantage plans add a hearing allowance set by the plan (Medicare guide). For private insurance, 25 state laws read for this site require some plans to cover or offer hearing aids, 14 of them with a dollar figure from $2,000 to $6,000 for a pair (state laws). IRS Publication 502 (2025) counts hearing aids as a medical expense: “You can include in medical expenses the cost of a hearing aid and batteries, repairs, and maintenance needed to operate it.”

Popular names with no price here

Some of the most searched hearing aid names have no page on this site because their sellers do not print a pair price. They are checked again at each refresh and listed with the reason on the methodology page:
